Asia Pacific Top
Level Domain Association is pleased to announce the signing of Memorandum of
Understanding with the Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centr (RIPE
NCC), a leading Regional Internet Registry servicing Europe and Middle East.

The signing
ceremony took place before 120 participants in the opening of the 72
nd Meeting of APTLD Members, which is held in Tbilisi, the capital city of the
Republic of Georgia and home to ITDC, a local IDN ccTLD registry and an APTLD
Member, which hosts the Meeting.

“The signing
of the MoU is a milestone development for APTLD. Both RIPE and APTLD deal with
management of In
ternet resources. With our Association consistently expanding
across the Middle East and Eurasia, teaming up with RIPE NCC will enable APTLD
to and benefit from its extensive expertise and proven operational excellence
in the region. Likewise, RIPE NCC is poised to build on APTLD’s high profile
and exposure across a vast region where our remits and operation overlap. This
win-win collaboration should certainly propel the Internet’s advancement and
benefit local end-users across the region” – said Lim Choon Sai, the APTLD
Board Chair.

“The RIPE NCC is
very happy to be solidifying our partnership with APTLD. As membership
organisations, we share a common interest in serving the growing Internet
community in Western Asia,” said Axel Pawlik, Managing Director of the RIPE
NCC. “This is certainly not the beginning of our work together, but we
look forward to strengthening our cooperation, particularly in developing and
delivering training and capacity building for our respective members and our
shared community”- added Axel Pawlik.

Established in
1998, APTLD is a non-governmental nonprofit membership-based Association for
country-code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) registries in the Asia Pacific region,
whose mission lies in
improving co-ordination and exchange of information,
knowledge and expertise within Asia-Pacific in relation to domain name registry
issues; fostering and promoting strong participation by its members in regional
and international forums; and promoting stability and continuity in the
Internet domain names system.

The MoU with the
RIPE NCC is now a part of the APTLD’s portfolio of MoUs with other industry
organizations, including ICANN and APNIC, which further cements the APTLD’s
standing as a key element of the regional and global Internet Governance
