ITU – APTLD TA Project for the .MV Registry Completed

APTLD is pleased to announce a successful completion of for ITU- APTLD technical assistance for .MV ccTLD registry.

Commissioned by the International Telecommunication Union, its Regional Office for Asia-Pacific under the guidance of Mr. Sameer Sharma, Senior Advisor, the project comprised of Recommendation to the Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) on Governing Framework of ccTLD Maldives taking into account    assessment of the current situation at .mv; comparing it with the best practices of countries in the Asia-Pacific region; to analyze relevant legal and /or policy instruments required for the management of the ccTLD.  This would result in a draft Domain Name Management Policy, a draft Dispute Resolution Policy, and schematic and technical specifications for key systems and software required for independent management of the ccTLD and estimates of respective costs.

The project was successfully delivered by Mr. Grigory Saghyan of the .am ccTLD registry of the Republic of Armenia, and the Mission Report has been submitted to the Government of the Republic of Maldives within the original timeline.

As a part of its mission in Asia Pacific, which is to serve as a forum for improved co-ordination and exchange of information, knowledge and expertise within Asia-Pacific in relation to domain name registry issues, APTLD was proud to facilitate the preparations for, and implementation of the project and to provide factual findings to corroborate the expert’s conclusions and recommendations.

ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. ITU in partnership with APTLD are strong advocates of the establishment of a robust, modern .mv ccTLD registry system. ITU resolves that the sovereign and legitimate interests, as expressed and defined by each country, in diverse ways, regarding decisions affecting their ccTLDs, need to be respected and ensured, upheld and addressed via flexible and improved frameworks and mechanisms and to work with Member States, Sector Members and relevant international organizations, as appropriate, on issues concerning Member States’ ccTLDs and related experiences.
